Functionally graded (FG) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced composite possessing continuously varied material properties have received extensive concern in the area of aviation, automotive, military, and spaceflight. The nonlinear bending of FG CNT composite is performed by developing a novel meshless model on the base of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The equivalent temperature relative material properties of composite is established in the light of the extended rule of mixture model. Different gradient dispersions of CNTs are taken into account and modeled. The governing equations are explored using the Mindlin theory and discretized though a symmetric SPH method with high prediction ability. The developed model is verified by analyzed several examples and compared to the solution obtained in literature. Influences of CNT dispersion, content, plate aspect ratio, boundary conditions and lamination angle on the bending response are elaborated. The present study provides an alternative potential method to solve the mechanical performances of FG CNT composites based on the meshless SPH formulation.Highlights Thermo‐mechanics of FG‐CNTRC is firstly solved by SPH method. The model is verified by solving the benchmarks in literature. Nonlinear bending behaviors of FG‐CNTRC are demonstrated. The minimum deflection take place in FG‐X type composite. For laminate plate, the smallest deformation occurs in 0° CNTRC.

In this paper, the thermomechanical buckling and vibration analysis are investigated for carbon nanotube‐reinforced composite sandwich doubly curved shells (CNCSDS) under the action of both thermal loads and in‐plane compressive loads. Based on the von‐Karman non‐linear kinematic relations, First Order Shear Theory, and Hamilton's principle, the vibration and stability equations for CNCSDS under thermomechanical loads are deduced. For obtaining the critical thermomechanical buckling load and vibration frequency, an exact method is adopted. Subsequently, the results are validated by comparing with the finding in published literature and simulation results. At last, the influence of system parameters on critical thermomechanical buckling load and vibration frequency is studied and displayed graphically. Meanwhile, some new results about thermomechanical buckling and vibration analysis of CNCSDS are proposed for the first time.Highlights Thermomechanical buckling and vibration of carbon nanotube‐reinforced composite sandwich doubly curved shells was studied. Vibration and stability equations under thermomechanical loads was deduced. The change rules of thermomechanical buckling load and frequency were obtained.

Examining three distinct rheological models with flexoelectric effect to investigate Love‐type wave velocity in bedded piezo‐structure

The transference of the surface seismic wave at the loosely bonded common interface of a visco‐piezo composite structure is examined in the current work. With the flexoelectric effect taken into account, the structure is composed of a viscoelastic layer embedded on a piezoelectric substrate. The shear stiffness of the upper layer is thought to be described by a Kelvin–Voigt model. An analytical separable of variable method is used to derive the complex dispersion relation for both electrically open and short circuit scenarios. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the significant influence of several influencing parameters on the wave's phase velocities and attenuation coefficients. Additionally, a graphic comparison of three rheological models – the Maxwell, Newton and Kelvin–Voigt models – is covered. Results indicate that the attenuation curve pertaining to the Maxwell and Newton model is lowest than on the Kelvin–Voigt model. Some major outcomes are highlighted here as: the prominent influence of bonding parameter is well‐proportional to the phase velocity and inversely proportional to the attenuation coefficient, and flexoelectricity has an intensive impact on both phase velocity and attenuation coefficient curves. This theoretical study leads to understanding the piezo‐flexo coupling and its potential application to design the sensors, actuators, energy harvesters and nano‐electronics.
