Nonlinear stability analysis of piecewise actuated piezoelectric microstructures

Abstract: Providing a general nonlinear model of piezoelectric microwires with the ability in adjusting stability conditions to improve the system characteristics. It was implemented by applying the piezo-voltage and/or actuating just a piece of the substrate electrostatically.

“…Piezoelectric materials have electromechanical coupling characteristics-i.e., they may generate mechanical deformation in an electric field and at the same time, electrical polarization under mechanical loads. This important characteristic makes them a good candidate for a variety of electromechanical devices-for example, sensors and actuators used extensively in electromechanical conversion [1][2][3][4]. Piezoelectric sensors are usually a laminated original made by ceramic slice.…”

“…On the other hand, scientists have made serious attempts to examine the properties of different biological particles, including molecules, biocells, viruses, or bacteria via these tiny instruments, which have opened an important area in the biomedical sciences 9,10 . With the high demand for ultra-sensitive biodetectors, beam-based micro and nanosystems have emerged and developed recently 11–15 . Their fabrication has also attracted much attention due to its difficulties in the ultra-small scale to reach acceptable accuracy in the instrumentation engineering 2,16 .…”
