Nonlocal effect and dimensions of Cooper pairs measured by low-energy muons and polarized neutrons in type-I superconductors

Abstract: The Pippard coherence length ξ0 (the size of a Cooper pair) in two extreme type-I superconductors (In and Sn) was determined directly through high-resolution measurement of the nonlocal electrodynamic effect combining low-energy muon spin rotation spectroscopy and polarized neutron reflectometry. The renormalization factor Z ≡ m * cp /2m (m * cp and m are the mass of the Cooper pair and the electron, respectively) resulting from the electron-phonon interaction, and the temperature dependent London penetration … Show more

“…Similar to our other indium samples (see Refs. [12,21]), the data on H c of the In-A When analyzing the graphs for the magnetic moment in perpendicular field (Figs. 4 and 5), we first note that the graphs meet the rule of 1/2: The area under the straight (green) line for all these graphs equals 1/2 with an error 3%.…”

“…The surface of these films consists of nearly atomically flat terraces [21], resulting in a significant degree of specular reflection of electrons at the surface. Owing to that, the mean free path of the electrons can become very large, exceeding the film thickness.…”

“…LE- µ SR is an unique and powerful technique to measure non-trivial B ( z ) on a nanometer scale in a wide variety of superconducting single crystals18, thin films1920, and heterostructures2122, allowing also the observation of non-local effects232425. Positively charged muons are slowed down and implanted into the samples at different mean implantation depths (Figs.…”
