“…19 An MRI may also be helpful in determining the age of the hematoma because blood degradation products have magnetic properties. 17,18,20 In the acute phase, the hematomas appear isointense on T1-weighted images and hyperintense on T2-weighted images. In the subacute stages, the hematomas appear hyperintense on T1-weighted images, whereas on T2-weighted images, they tend to be slightly hypointense to isointense, or slightly hyperintense.…”

“…The late chronic hematomas appear isointense to the spinal cord on T1-weighted images and very hypointense on T2-weighted images because of the content in ferritin and hemosiderin. 17 Neurologic recovery is dependent on the volume of the hematoma. 21,22 The second variable for outcome is the time interval between the first symptoms and decompression.…”

“…Although patients exhibiting severe quadriplegia or paraplegia only very rarely achieve complete recovery by conservative treatment, there remains the possibility for SSEH to resolve spontaneously (11,12). In Case 1, our patient's neurological recovery started as MR imaging was being performed, and complete neurologi- …”

“…There are several reports of SSEH being managed conservatively (6 -8,16 -23). Conservative treatment, however, has often resulted in a poor clinical outcome (11,12,23). Duffill et al reported 4 SSEH patients who could be treated conservatively (7).…”

“…По истечении 48 ч, в подострой стадии, гема-тома дает гетерогенный гиперинтенсивный сигнал как на Т1, так и на Т2 ВИ. Усиление неоднородности сигнала происходит в результате образования дезоксигемоглобина [27,28].…”
