NORARTOCARPETIN, FLAVONE DERIVATIVE FROM LEAVES OF Artocarpus fretessi

Abstract: Norartocarpetin (1), together with mulberrin (2) and mulberrokromen (3) were isolated from Artocarpus fretessi (Moraceae). This plant is an endemic species in Indonesia and locally known as ";Kelembi"; or ";Maumbi";. The structure of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of physical and spectroscopic data. Compounds (1) is precursor of compound (2) and (3) in the biogenetic pathway.   Keywords: Norartocarpetin, mulberrin, mulberrokromen, Artocarpus fretessi (Moraceae).

“…Despite the interesting biological activities mentioned above, not many detailed phytochemical studies have been reported so far on K. hospita . To date, cycloartane triterpenoids, the alkaloids kleinhospitines A–D, and several flavonoids as well as coumarins were isolated from the stem bark and leaves. Cycloartane triterpenoids are found widely in plants and algae and are associated with the biosynthesis of steroidal compounds . They exhibit numerous biological activities, including having cytotoxic, antimicrobial, , anti-HIV, antituberculosis, hepatoprotective, , and antifeedant effects .…”
