“…The rodent thymus develops from the endoderm of the 3rd and 4th pharangeal pouches and surrounding mesenchyme. (Dijkstra and Sminia, 1990) The pharangeal pouch connects with the pharynx via the thymopharangeal duct, remnants of which may be incorporated into the developing thymus giving rise to epithelial cystic structures (Figures 1 and 2). As development progresses, the thymus along with the thyroid and parathyroid, sharing the same pharangeal pouch origin, migrate caudally.…”

“…(Klenerman et al, 2017). The thymic frame consists of cross-linked epithelial cells between which evolve maturing T lymphocytes and macrophages (Moticka et al, 2016), in the superficial cortex, reticular epithelial cells or feeder cells are distinguished from lymphocytes only by their paler, ovoid nucleus, in the deep cortex, the reticular epithelial cells are involved in lymphocyte selection, the Hassal corpuscles, characteristic of the thymic medulla, consist of epithelial cells arranged concentrically in a bulb and undergoing a keratinization process from the periphery to the center, the outermost cells are less mature than the central cells loaded with keratin (Dijkstra et al, 1990). The immune system is thus able to respond to external stimuli intervening anywhere in the body.…”

“…A população linfóide tímica imunofenotipicamente é heterogênea, caracterizando diferentes estágios de maturação na região cortical (DIJKSTRA; SMINIA, 1990;PICKER;SIEGELMAN, 1993;XAVIER, 1999). O acesso das células progenitoras ao timo de camundongos ocorre através de grandes vênulas medulares e da junção córtico-medular.…”
