“…Importantly, the functions of the linker molecules extend beyond payload connection and controlled release. [24,[53][54][55][56] As demonstrated in previous examples, an appropriately designed linker is also critical to the overall physicochemical properties of the whole conjugate, which control the stability of self-assembled supramolecular structure, the ability for plasma protein binding, and cell membrane interactions. [24,[54][55][56] For example, in a complexed biological environment, the molecular weight of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in a diacyl lipid-PEG-peptide conjugate controls the dedicate balance between an albuminbinding state and a membrane insertion state.…”

“…The chief original goal of the survey was to provide a relatively shallow Herschel survey over a very large area of sky, with the specific aims of providing measurements of the dust masses and dust-obscured star formation rate for tens of thousands of nearby galaxies (Dunne et al 2011), complementing the large optical spec-troscopic surveys of the nearby Universe, such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS; Abazajian et al 2009) and the Galaxy and Mass Assembly project (GAMA 1 ; Driver et al 2009;Liske et al 2015). However, the exceptional sensitivity of Herschel, aided by the large and negative k−correction at submillimeter wavelengths (Blain & Longair 1993), has meant that a significant fraction of the sources in H-ATLAS actually lie at high redshift (Amblard et al 2010;Lapi et al 2011;González-Nuevo et al 2012;Pearson et al 2013). The H-ATLAS survey is therefore useful both to astronomers studying the nearby Universe and to those studying the early (z > 1) Universe.…”

“…We do not yet have a good history of cigarette patriotism, though Louis Kyriakoudes’s forthcoming book ( Why We Smoke ) should help. We need to know more about how and why cigarette makers collaborated for so many years with medical professionals: even JAMA , until 1954, was full of ads for cigarettes, and from 1964 to 1976, the AMA received nearly $20 million from the industry (for education and research), creating what journalists even at the time ridiculed as “the weirdest lobbying alliance in legislative history.”…”
