North American Efficacy and Safety of a Novel Pediculicide Rinse, Isopropyl Myristate 50% (Resultz)

“…Mechanical mechanism of action makes development of resistance unlikely. [98] Suffocant (vs. malathion) Physical A randomized multicentre, phase IV trial compared a suffocant [paraffinum liquidum, isopropyl myristate, lauretth-3, butylenes/ethylene/styrene copolymer, ethylene/propylene/ styrene copopymer, carthamus tinctorius (safflower oil) and butylated hydroxytoluene] with malathion for head lice in children, suffocant more effective than malathion and with low incidence of mild adverse events. [87] Essential oils pediculicides vs. suffocant…”

“…[86] Treatment Increasing resistance and adverse effects have raised concerns about head lice treatments, [87] encouraging search for new treatments [ Table 4]. [88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103] No available pediculicide is 100% ovicidal, and resistance to lindane, pyrethrins, permethrin, and malathion has been reported. [100] Nits persist after the treatment and may be mistaken for active infestation [ Figure 5].…”

“…One further published assessor-blinded randomised controlled trial, conducted in North America, involving 60 participants, compared isopropyl myristate 50% in cyclomethicone (up to three applications, on days 0, 7 and 14) with a pyrethrin 0.33% plus piperonyl butoxide 4% combination product (two treatments, on days 0 and 7) 11. Patients were assessed on days 0, 7, 14 and 21.…”
