“…The complete genotypes of G8P[8] strain circulating in Beijing was “G8‐P[8]‐I2‐R2‐C2‐M2‐A2‐N2‐T2‐E2‐H2.” This strain was formed by multiple reassortment events between the DS‐1‐like strains and a bovine‐like G8 genotype (DS‐1‐like G8P[8] strain) 23,24 . G8P[8] was also detected in other regions of China from 2020 to 2022, such as Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Shanghai, which also became the predominant strain in children in Shanghai in 2022 and is highly similar to the strains in our study 25–28 . RVA genotype monitoring should be conducted in other regions of China to determine whether G8P[8] will become the predominant genotype.…”

[25][26][27][28] RVA genotype monitoring should be conducted in other regions of China to determine whether G8P [8] will become the predominant genotype. In addition, we also found that RV5 vaccination may affect the intragenotypic evolution of other circulating genotypes.…”

“…Coincidently, in the past two decades, the predominant G genotype of RVAs have undergone two major changes in China, including G1 to G3 around 2001 and G3 to G9 after 2012 [ 14 , 15 ], while the P genotype remains unchanged as P [ 8 , 16 ]. Unusual G8 genotype have emerged and rapidly spread in several countries [ 17 ], but it has been reported only in a limited number of cities in the south of China, including Kunming, Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou and Fuzhou [ [18] , [19] , [20] , [21] ]. As of our study, there were no reports of G8P [ 8 ] RVs in northern cities of China.…”

“…The predominant rotavirus strain shifted from G1P [8] to G3P [8] in 2001; G3P [8] was replaced by G9P [8] after 2012 in China [7,8]. The rare G-P combination G8P [8] emerged in the south of China in 2020-2021 [9,10].…”

“…The G8 RVA is commonly regarded as being of bovine origin [15,16]. The first human G8 rotavirus, named 69M (G8-P [10]-I2-R2-C2-M2-A2-N2-T2-E2-H2), was identified in Indonesia in 1980 [16,17]. The human G8P [8] rotavirus spread in East and Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam, from 2010 through 2019 [18][19][20][21][22][23].…”
