Abstract: Two medical recipes, unpublished so far, attest new meanings for two words : purus, a, um, used as a qualifier for a person who performs an action all by himself (in other words, purus is employed here as a synonym of solus) ; and a novel use of purare, a verb known hitherto only from Festus, where, however, its meaning differs from that found in our recipe.
