Notes on taxonomy and nomenclature of the F. C. Hoehne´s names to Aristolochia (Aristolochiaceae)

Abstract: The Brazilian botanist F. C. Hoehne contributed to the knowledge of several families, mainly Orchidaceae and Aristolochiaceae. In Aristolochia, he published 29 new species, six varieties/subspecies, most of them without formal designation of holotypes, and four combinations at specific or infraspecific level. Herein, taxonomic novelties, including the reinstatement of A. schmidtiana, and typification of most of those Hoehne’s names with designation of 13 lectotypes (including two basionyms combined by him), re… Show more

“…The taxonomic status of this species as distinct from A. paulistana was clarified by Freitas and Alves-Araújo (2017), 81 years after its original description. This circumscription, maintained by Freitas et al (2020a) is here corroborated and five specimens previously treated as A. paulistana are identified here as A. hypoglauca. Until now, only A. paulistana has been included in a phylogenetic study, however, its position concerning other South American species used in this study is inconclusive (Ohi-Toma et al 2006).…”

“…The taxonomic framework to distinguish the two species here studied, and the remaining pseudostipule-bearing species with caudate perianth limb included in the key below followed Freitas et al (2020a). Morphological terms follow Harris and Harris (2001), except for those specific traits of Aristolochia flowers and fruits, which were described according to González (1990), and nomenclature follows the latest International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICBN) (Turland et al 2018).…”

“…These results can be compared with findings that described the determination of Procion Green HE-4BD in an aqueous solution [29] and the determination of Reactive Blue using an imprinted carbon working electrode via voltammetry [7]. Other methods have been developed and studied for determining reactive dyes, such as spectrophotometry, capillary electrophoresis, and chromatography [30]. However, most of these methods are costly and difficult to apply in routine analyses.…”

“…Milles Moss s.n., coletado em setembro de 1914 e depositado no Herbário do Museu Goeldi (MG!). Essa espécie foi proposta como sinônimo de A. mossii por Ahumada (1977) Freitas et al (2017), com o que se concorda nesse trabalho. Pelos dados de coleta e semelhança dos espécimes, considera-se que tal material poderia até ser uma duplicata do holótipo de A. mossii depositado no BM.…”
