Novel dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether functionalized bis-benzimidazole derivatives: synthesis and antifungal evaluation

Abstract: A series of novel 18-crown-6 ether functionalized bis-benzimidazole derivatives (3a-g) have been synthesized by reacting various substituted ortho-phenylene diamines and pyridine diamines with 4,4 0 -diformyl dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether (1). The required starting material 4,4 0 -diformyl dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether (1) was prepared by Duff formylation method. “…In the present study, we report the synthesis of novel crown ether functionalized bis‐indolyl methane derivatives from 4‐formyl benzo‐15‐crown‐5 and substituted indoles. Initially, the starting material used was 4‐formyl benzo‐15‐crown‐5 ( 2 ) synthesized by Duff formylation of the benzo‐15‐crown‐5, which was treated with trifluoroacetic acid and hexamine at 90°C for 15 h to get desired product.
