“…Recently we developed improved procedures for the preparation and isolation of C 60 F 18 that make this compound available on a gram scale. 25,26 This allowed us to start from 0.7 g of C 60 F 18 in the reaction with tris(methoxycarbonyl)methane and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene and obtain 560 mg of emerald-green trannulene TMCMT (Scheme 1, 54% yield).…”

“…We have recently solved the problem of availability of precursor fluorofullerene C 60 F 18 and developed efficient synthetic procedures that allowed us to obtain gram quantities of substituted C 60 F 15 R 3 trannulenes. [12] For some practical needs it might be critical to load the fluorinated trannulene core with different functional groups. It can be envisioned that one group in C 60 F 15 R 2 RЈ trannulenes might be responsible for specific targeting of the trannulene molecule, whereas two others should provide sufficient solubility in aqueous media.…”

“…For comparison, this way was often used to fluorinate fullerene using K 2 PtF 6 , MnF 3 (alone or involved in binary or ternary mixtures), CoF 3 with alkali metal fluorides and MnF 2 [18], silver(I) or silver(II) fluorides [19], or lead fluorides (PbF 2 , PbF 4 , Pb 2 F 6 ) and their complexes with alkali metal and alkali earth metal fluorides (M 2 PbF 6 , M 3 PbF 6 and MPbF 6 ). This particular example shows the varying nature of the fluorinating agents.…”
