Novel Nanotechnological Strategies for Skin Anti-aging

Abstract: Background: Nanoparticle formulations development for anti-aging treatment is increasing due to their multifunctional properties. These nanotechnological strategies can target cellular/molecular pathways of the skin affected by the aging process. However, a review of these strategies is required to discuss their efficacy/safety and establish the needs for further research. Objective: Innovative nanotechnological advances for skin anti-aging/rejuvenation are summarized and discussed in this work. Method: Th… Show more

“…Compared to different anti-aging strategies, such as botox and fillers, vitamin D can be delivered into the skin topically [280,281]. Topical application, including transdermal delivery [282], is effective, safe and pain-free [283,284].…”

“…In this respect, ETs can be thought of as transdermal delivery systems, being able to promote the permeability of entrapped drugs through different skin strata. The ET simple and low-energy-consuming production protocol, together with the biocompatibility of the excipients, make these systems particularly attractive for dermatological applications, as demonstrated by the increasingly growing number of related research articles [37][38][39].…”

“…Emerging approaches to modulate the delivery of antioxidants to the skin have utilized specialized delivery carriers such as nanoparticles or liposomes. 21 , 22 In these strategies, antioxidants are encapsulated in a variety of different vesicular, lipidic, and polymeric systems to prevent degradation and improve penetration. 22 For molecules to pass through the stratum corneum, there are physiochemical properties that must be met.…”

For example, the partition coefficient (log P) must be high enough for the molecule to pass through the lipid-rich stratum corneum.…”
