Novel Permanent Magnet Tubular Linear Generator for Wave Energy Converters

Abstract: Abstract-Clean and sustainable alternative energy is becoming attractive as oil costs rise and the negative side effects of traditional energy systems begin to become apparent. One often overlooked, but still rapidly growing alternative is wave power. There are fascinating new designs for harnessing the tremendous power of the waves. Hence any contribution in this field could be of real interest for numerous specialists. In the paper a novel modular permanent magnet tubular linear generator is proposed and ana… Show more

“…As shown by [4], [5] a three-phase tubular permanent magnet linear generator (TPM-LiG) machine equipped with a modular stator winding in which the coils of each phase are disposed adjacent to each other, as shown in Fig.1, has been identified as being the most appropriate for this application. When the slider is moved the fluxes originated by PMs link each phase according to phases' reciprocal distances so that an appropriate space shifting allows the three-phase generation.…”

“…In addition, the use of HCPM made of NdFeB and SmCo alloys for high-speed damping elements is promising to develop the space systems due to improving their energy characteristics [5]. To develop the alternative energy, the ship and transport systems (railway trains), including the cargo location tracking, the use of single-coordinate and multicoordinate vibrational EMs with HCPM is of interest [6,7]. To develop the ship power supply systems, energy conversion systems of detonation engines and automotive systems, the use of high-speed linear EM with HCPM as the main generators of the power supply system is topical.…”

“…In recent years linear generators have been proposed in several marine applications as a wellsuited technology for power generation such as power buoys [5,6]. Those kinds of buoys could be used as large-scale devices in power plants and as small-size devices in electronic supply as well.…”
