Novel phase change materials based on fatty acid eutectics and triallyl isocyanurate composites for thermal energy storage

Abstract: In this study, a series of dimension‐stabilized fatty acid eutectics and triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC) composite phase change materials were prepared via in situ reaction by blending the fatty acids and TAIC, in which the fatty acids were introduced as a phase change material (PCM), and TAIC performed as a supporting material by self‐crosslinking. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis were… Show more

“…In addition, the use of organic solvents cannot be avoided during specimen fabrication, and these solvents are not environmentally friendly. Huang et al 39,40 chose to use cetyl alcohol and fatty acid co‐crystals as the phase transition components, which avoided the issues associated with PEG. These two experiments resulted in excellent SSPCMs, but the curing process was tedious and used harsh conditions.…”

“…Inorganic PCM such as salt hydrates demonstrate low crystallization rates, have sub cooling effect, and exhibit phase segregation during transition . Meanwhile for organic PCMs, fatty acids such as palmitic acid, myristic acid (MA), and stearic acid (SA) are promising as they possess some superior properties over other PCMs such as melting congruency, good chemical stability, nontoxicity, no supercooling effects during phase transition, and suitable melting temperature range for solar passive heating instruments …”
