Novel Polynuclear Nickel(II) Complex: Hydrazine, Sulfato, and Hydroxo Bridging in an Unusual Metal Hexamer. Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of [Ni6(N2H4)6(SO4)4(OH)2(H2O)8](SO4)(H2O)10

Abstract: A reaction between nickel(II) sulfate and hydrazine in aqueous solution yields blue crystals of [Ni(6)(N(2)H(4))(6)(SO(4))(4)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)(8)](SO(4))(H(2)O)(10). The compound has been characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, as well as variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility. This is the first reported crystal structure of the nickel(II) complex with hydrazine. The complex cation in the compound has a remarkable structure with unusual diversity of bridging g… Show more

“…Consequently, the long chains of peroxo-bridged irons can be found in the vicinity of each other. Such chains may mediate exchange coupling between the irons like in the case of Ni or Co ions in polynuclear complexes [7,8]. 5) even when higher amount of oxygen could be introduced [6] between the stacks of Pc than in the case of the dry oxygenation.…”

“…It has been suggested that multinuclear nickel complexes are relatively well‐known for exhibiting magnetic interactions that are antiferro‐ or ferromagnetic in nature . In these complexes, controlling the interactions among the metal ions provides a way to organize the overall spin ground state.…”

“…Polymeric complexes containing bridging ligands have received attention because of their interesting molecular topologies and the fact that they may be designed with specific functionalities [1][2][3]. Azide and thiocyanate act as bridging ligands between metallic centers [4][5][6][7][8].…”
