Novel repulsive magnetic bearing flywheel system with composite adaptive control

Abstract: Here, a novel flywheel structure is proposed with passive permanent magnet (PM) bearings in the radial and axial directions and an active magnetic bearing (AMB) in the axial direction. In the proposed structure, passive magnetic bearings do not provide a stable magnetic levitation in all directions, but it is possible to maintain the dynamic stability of the flywheel by using AMB in the axial direction. In the proposed bearing structure, radial repulsive magnetic bearings (RMBs) reduce the power consumption wi… Show more

“…The control link plays a vital role in the entire magnetic bearing system, and the performance of the magnetic bearing also depends on the performance of the control system [103]. With the advantages of wide application range, simple structure, and convenient debugging, the PID control method was first applied to the control link of magnetic bearings [13,104,105]. With the advancement of modern control theory and technology, people's requirements for the accuracy and stability of the magnetic bearing system are gradually increasing [106,107].…”

“…The motor combines magnetic bearing and motoring functionalities into a single actuator. Basaran et al [106] present radial repulsive magnetic bearings that reduce power consumption with less complexity. Andriollo et al [107] discuss an integrated, axial hybrid magnetic bearing with a steel flywheel.…”

“…Giap et al, (2020) utilized Mamdani FIS to create a fuzzy sliding mode control (FSMC) to minimise the disturbance effect on AMB system [18]. Other than fuzzy logic-based control some other control strategies [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27] are listed in Table 1.…”
