Novel SNPs in the growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible protein 45 alpha gene (GADD45A) associated with meat quality traits in Berkshire pigs

Abstract: ABSTRACT. This study was conducted to evaluate the porcine gene GADD45A (growth arrest and DNA-damage-inducible protein 45 alpha) as a positional candidate controlling quantitative trait loci (QTL) for meat quality traits on chromosome 6 (SSC6). Four exons of the porcine GADD45A gene were defined from cDNA and BAC clone sequences. A total of 4 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified in porcine GADD45A. The association of these SNPs (g.196A>G, g.392C>A, g.955T>C and g.3247A>T) with meat quality t… Show more

“…GADD45A is up-regulated under stressful growth arrest conditions and by treatment with DNA-damaging agents. The protein encoded by this gene activates p38/JNK signaling via MEKK4/MTK1 kinase, which is known to regulate fat deposition in pork (Cho et al, 2015). In the present study, the expression of DUSP1 was fivefold higher in the LP group (13,073 reads) than in the HP group (2,380 reads), suggesting that high expression levels of DUSP1 modulate lipid metabolism and synthesis (Nukitrangsan et al, 2011).…”

“…In recent years, many researchers have been focused on the identification of SNPs and the expression profile of candidate genes that might have close association with meat quality (Chai et al, 2015;Wu et al, 2015). Finally, they put their effort to adjust these results in breeding for improved economic traits in pig industry (Cho et al, 2015a).…”

“…Adiponectin (ADIPOQ) has the glucose regulation and fatty acid oxidation function [18]. A SNP in Growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible protein GADD45 Alpha (GADD45A) showed signi cant association patterns for IMF and backfat thickness in Berkshire pigs [19]. Mitochondrially Encoded NADH: Ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 6 (ND6) could participated in regulates mitochondrial fatty acid oxidative metabolism, and two rare variants in ND6 were associated with BMI [20,21].…”
