“…In this contribution we report results from the first stages of a long-term collaborative project aimed at novel template and templated materials design, synthesis, characterization, and application. [12] We will focus mainly on materials, which we designate IROU-1, templated by the bolaform surfactant x-hydroxy hexadecyltriethylammonium bromide 1 (HOCTEAB). For 1 in water the critical micelle concentration (cmc) was found to be 6.2 mM at 25 C and the Krafft temperature, 18 C. The x-hydroxy bolaform surfactants have Krafft temperatures about 30 C higher than the corresponding non-hydroxy surfactants.…”

“…[13a,c] This further implied that the hydroxyl group could be involved in H-bonding at the organic/water/inorganic interface either with the surfactant ammonium head group or an incoming silicate reagent. Such an interaction could therefore modify the effective surfactant headgroup area, the subsequent micelle packing and the available pore symmetries [12] of a templated inorganic mesostructure.…”

“…Ordered supermicroporous silica with pore size of 1⋅96 nm was synthesized from a double-chain surfactant by Ryoo et al (2001). ö-hydroxy-bolaform as surfactants, highly ordered super-microporous silica with pore size of 1⋅4-2⋅0 nm has been synthesized by Bagshaw and Hayman (2000). A series of lamellar super-microporous silica with pore size of 1⋅2-1⋅5 nm were synthesized by nanocasting with ionic liquids (Zhou and Antonietti 2003).…”

“…Up to now, less attention has been developed to the synthesis of materials in the super-microporous (pore size 1-2 nm) range [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. The materials in this pore size range are very important since the bridge the gap between microporous zeolites and mesoporous materials.…”
