Novel, User-Friendly Experimental and Analysis Strategies for Fast Voltammetry: 1. The Analysis Kid for FSCV

Abstract: Fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) at carbon fiber microelectrodes measures low concentrations of analytes in biological systems. There are ongoing efforts to simplify FSCV analysis, and several custom platforms are available for filtering and multimodal analysis of FSCV signals, but there is no single, easily accessible platform that has the capacity for all of these features. Here we present The Analysis Kid: currently, the only free, open-source cloud application that does not require a specialized runtime… Show more

“…Limits of integration to estimate the charge of the Faradaic peak and maximum amplitude from FSCAV serotonin CVs were obtained using custom-designed automatic local minima and local maxima algorithms implemented in The Analysis Kid . Charge of the Faradaic peak was calculated using Simpson’s rule.…”

“…We discuss this ANN’s capacity to achieve calibration-free analysis as a function of being able to predict background current from the full voltammogram and thus utilized the network to successfully predict absolute serotonin concentrations of real in vivo data. Finally, we created a time-saving and user-friendly, fully automated FSCAV analysis platform, freely available on the web and built on our previously developed web app for FSCV analysis () . The open-source code is also available, under an MIT license, at .…”

“…After 30 min of stable control files, DPH injection, 20 mg kg -1 ) is administered and files are taken for an additional 60 min. Charge under the serotonin Faradaic peak are detected and integrated using customdesigned algorithms in The Analysis Kid (Mena et al, 2021). Charge was converted to extracellular serotonin concentration using calibration factors obtained from calibrations specific for each electrode.…”

“…Next follows the first accepted and published research article in ACS Measurement Science Au by Parastoo Hashemi and co-workers, who share a new data analysis software, “The Analysis Kid”, for FSCV with the bioelectrochemistry community. While FSCV is a common electroanalytical chemical technique for studying exocytosis in neurochemistry, the data analysis procedures have primarily been developed by individual research groups without easy access for the broader bioelectrochemistry community.…”

“…The work also shows the importance of making data sets and analysis tools publicly available for machine-learning opportunities and discovery. Both of these articles , really excite me, as open access publishing is only one dimension of open science. I am excited to see our authors embracing open science and showing the community the importance of it.…”
