NOVO REGISTRO DE LEUCISMO EM Vanellus chilensis (Molina, 1782), NO SUL DO BRASIL

Abstract

RESUMOO leucismo é uma mutação cromática que bloqueia a síntese de melanina e provoca a perda da pigmentação nas penas das aves. O presente estudo descreve um novo caso de mutação em Vanellus chilensis. Um indivíduo adulto que apresenta leucismo parcial na coloração da plumagem no dorso e asas. O registro foi realizado em perímetro urbano, no município de São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul. Palavras-chave:Charadriidae; Quero-quero; Mutação. Leucism is a chromatic mutation that blocs the synthesis of melanin leading to loss of pigmentation in birds feathers. This study describes a new case of mutation in Vanellus chilensis. An adult individual that shows partial leucism on the back plumage and wings color. INTRODUÇÃOO quero-quero, Vanellus chilensis, Charadriidae, com ampla distribuição na América Central até à Terra do Fogo, pode ser encontrado tanto em ambientes campestres quanto aquáticos (Sick, 1997). Mede cerca de 30 cm de comprimento e na coloração destaca-se uma faixa preta, que segue do pescoço até o peito. Apresenta tom cinza escuro na região dorsal e o ventre em tom branco. Tarsos e íris são de coloração avermelhada (Sick, 1997; Couve e Vidal, 2003).Variações cromáticas na plumagem e partes externas de aves são eventos documentados na literatura (Teixeira, 1985;Nemésio, 1999). As variações mais comumente relatadas, são casos de albinismo, leucismo e melanismo, sendo o leucismo citado com maior frequência (Van Grouw, 2006;2013).
