In this article, we examine young people's narratives on sexual harassment on how it is endured, objected, observed, and negotiated in diverse everyday life environments. The article is based on an analysis of thematic interviews with 36 young people aged 15–19 living in the metropolitan area of Helsinki, Finland. Altogether 23 young women and 13 young men participated in the interviews which were conducted at educational institutions as individual, paired or group interviews. We analyze young people's narratives on sexual harassment as stories of everyday citizenship and, and more precisely, as acts of citizenship. We have also applied the concept of respectability to study how young women and men construct respectable sexual citizenship. We found out that whereas female respectability suggests that young women should be able to protect their sexual integrity effectively, male respectability expects young men to effectively balance between different positions of masculinity. While young people widely condemn sexual harassment and recognize it as discrimination, the gendered ways of constructing respectability, however, maintain the moral double standard by which young women remain the gatekeepers of sexual consent and young men test its boundaries.

Popular boys, the ideal schoolboy, and blended patterns of masculinity for 10‐ to 11‐year‐olds in two London schools

Generating data from small group interviews with 41 boys aged 10–11 years from two London schools in 2022, this paper contributes to the field of gender by introducing a new form of non‐hegemonic and positive masculinity, which I am calling ‘blended’ masculinity, and which was the most common formation in each school. Although its features differed a little in each setting, this blended formulation broadly consisted of orthodox qualities of masculinity (e.g. athleticism, assertiveness, confidence, independence), combined with feminine‐associated traits (e.g. kindness, caring, sociability, emotional literacy). I argue that this blended form is different from previous conceptualisations of hybrid masculinity in the gender literature and is more akin to recent conceptions of hybrid femininity. There were no dominant forms of masculinity with hierarchical connotations of superiority, and no hegemony that legitimated unequal relations, with obvious subordination of other masculinities or femininities. Boys and girls generally got on well with each other and there was also no evidence of homophobia or misogyny. The paper also explores notions of peer‐group popularity, which was based on a series of resources, and delineates the characteristics of a fictional, ‘ideal’, schoolboy, whose features and attributes were connected to the different versions of masculinity on show.

The investigation of PVC surface characteristics involved the utilization of Monte Carlo simulation software, TRIM, to replicate the interaction between ion beams and the PVC surface. TRIM is a widely employed tool for examining surface structure. The analysis centered on the interactions between PVC surfaces and ions of hydrogen, helium, argon, and krypton. The ion beam irradiation was carried out at varying angles 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 75° relative to the sample's surface normal, and it encompassed two distinct incident ion energies 1 keV and 1 MeV. The interplay between ions and the PVC surface can result in diverse processes, including sputtering, emission, and ionization, contingent upon the mass, incident energy, and angle of incidence of the ions. The calculation of stopping power (both nuclear and electronic) and the range of projectiles can also be determined using the same set of incident ions (H, He, Ar, and Kr) but within different energy spectrums (from 10 eV to 10 MeV). The stopping range is contingent on the incident energy and mass of each incident ion, a crucial factor in the process of implantation. This procedure finds applications in doping semiconductors or other materials, with potential uses in catalysis, gas sensing, and various chemical applications.
