Nuclear nonmetastatic protein 23‐H1 expression and epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in laryngeal carcinoma: A pilot investigation

Abstract: Nuclear nm23-H1 expression warrants further investigation in laryngeal SCC as a prognostic marker identifying patients at higher risk of recurrence. nm23-H1 targeted treatments may be capable of regulating epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition.

“…19 The EMT program was recently investigated in LSCC too. 20 In 2015, Cappellesso et al 12 analyzed the clinical and pathological role of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, Snail, Slug, Zeb1, and Zeb2 in 37 consecutive cases of LSCC. Low E-cadherin levels and high Slug levels correlated with both a higher disease recurrence rate and a shorter disease-free survival.…”

“…Similar to IPI score, these prognostic models also did not include tumor-specific biological factors, and can therefore not be used for targeted therapies (31,34). nm23, TOP2A, MUM-1 and VEGF are very common markers used to estimate the progression, infiltration and metastasis ability of many malignant tumors, particularly carcinomas (14,(40)(41)(42)(43)(44). Although their prognostic role in various carcinomas has been widely investigated over time, such as breast (45), pancreatic (12) and renal cell carcinoma (42), to the best of our knowledge, a limited number of have focused on their value in lymphomas.…”
