Only a few years ago Russia was a white area in the western maps of APL penetration. Virtually nothing was known about the usage of APt there. Somebody found an APt textbook translated into Russian in a bookstore in Moscow [1] indicating that there must be at least some interest in this language. Before the international APt conference in 1984 in Helsinki one person indicated his interest to participate, but nothing was heard of him since then. So there where aspirations that APt was being used in the country, but users did not want to contact the international APt community. Recently, it has become known that APt was almost entirely used for applications labeled Secret.
