Looking aheadWhere to find more information GDF Report 2024 3 We're proud to be delivering a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) as the safe, secure, and long-term solution for the most hazardous radioactive waste.We have benefitted from a world-leading nuclear sector for many decades, and this vital programme enables us to take responsibility for dealing with radioactive waste now and not to leave it for future generations. It is one of the largest environmental protection programmes in the UK and ensures we remove the costs and burden of having to keep the waste safe and secure in storage facilities for many thousands of years.A GDF will also support the drive for energy security and climate change commitments by enabling new nuclear energy.An intermediate level waste storage repository at Sellafield.
