Nuclear spectroscopy of neutron-richA=145 nuclei

Abstract: A study of the fl-decay of neutron-rich A = 145 fission products was undertaken by the use of the two recoil separators LOHENGRIN and JOSEF and the ISOL-type separator OSTIS. The/?-decaying isotopes 145Ba, 145La and ~SCe were extensively studied. Level schemes for 145La, 14SCe and 14Spr were deduced from 7 and conversion electron spectra, 7 Y, X7 delayed and fi 7 coincidences. The Q~-values have been measured for the *4SBa, 145La and 145Ce decays.

“…The Q-value and T 1/2 are taken from [23] and [14], respectively. by Pfeiffer et al [25]. In addition, high-spin states of 145 La nuclei produced in the spontaneous fission of 248 Cm and 252 Cf were studied by Urban et al [4] and Zhu et al [5].…”

“…Two negative parity states of spin 5/2 and 7/2-are also observed in other odd-even nuclei with 86 neutrons (~41Cs [12], 145pr [11], 147Pm [17]); the smooth decrease of their energy with increasing proton number may be attributed to the lowering and splitting of the proton orbit h 11/2.…”

“…The values used for the ground state//-branch (19 %) in the decay of l~SBa and the relative intensity of the 96.9 keV 7-ray are from the single reported study on the decay of 14SBa [16]. The ground state /?-branch in the decay of 14SCs was determined to be (3.2_+2.0)~/~.…”

“…The ground state spin of 145Cs was directly measured to be 3/2 and identified as, the Nilsson 3/2 + [422] proton orbit [7]. The N=87 isotones, ~#TNd, 145Ce and 143Ba are reported [6,16,17] to have ground state I ' values of 5/2-, (5/2-) and 5/2-, respectively; the N=89 iso-tones 149Nd and ~S~Sm are reported [5] to have ground states U=5/2-, However, very recently, the direct spin measurement of neutron-rich odd Ba isotopes was reported [8] and a spin value of (3/2) was deduced for 14SBa.
