Number of Turns of Dental Implant and Thread Characteristics (Literature Review)

Abstract

Background. Currently, dental implantation is widely used for the purpose of orthopedic rehabilitation of patients with defects of the dental arches. However, for a practicing dentist, the problem of choosing an implant system remains relevant. The aim of our study was to investigate the influence of the number of threads of a dental implant and its thread characteristics on the success of implantation. Methods. Scientific publications, mainly from the last 10 years, in the search engines PubMed and eLibrary. Results and conclusion. One of the important criteria for implant survival is the process of osseointegration. Long-term successful integration is affected by the primary stability of dental implants. The characteristics of the implant thread and the number of its turns improve primary stability and are the key to successful osseointegration. Conical shape, larger diameter and length of the implant, larger width and depth of the thread, smaller thread pitch, and a greater number of turns affect the contact area of ​​the implant and bone tissue and, consequently, primary stability. In general, implants should be selected individually for each clinical case.
