Numerical analysis of the sub-wavelength fabrication of MTMO grayscale photomasks by direct laser writing

Abstract: Metal-transparent-metallic-oxide (MTMO) grayscale photomasks fabricated by direct laser writing have been proposed in recent years. The fabrication mechanism is attributed to light-induced melt-oxidization. The temporal-spatial distribution of temperature fields of indium film-glass samples under a laser pulse have been calculated by the Finite-Difference Time-Domain method. The laser action area of the indium film is studied based on the oxidation theories and the absorbed laser power density distribution in … Show more

“…The contact angle hysteresis for both chemically etched and laser-textured patterns also reflects the different wetting properties (see Tables S1 and S2, Supporting Information). This is because the laser beam melts the porous film and significantly reduces the roughness of the scanned areas (Figure e), , while the surrounding unscanned areas still keep the porosity and the superhydrophobicity. As a result, there is a significant difference in surface wettability at the edge of the laser-processed area (Figure f).…”

“…For example, Liu's group used femtosecond laser direct processing of metal-transparent metal oxides. The fabrication mechanism is attributed to light-induced melt oxidation, which uses non-linear effects to limit the size of the oxidized region, enabling subwavelength processing [38,39] (Figure 1A). In 2020, Huang et alused femtosecond laser to process the 3D shell-like structures of gold films.…”
