Numerical magnetic field analysis and signal processing for fault diagnostics of electrical machines

Abstract: Numerical magnetic field analysis is used for predicting the performance of an induction motor and a slip-ring generator having different faults implemented in their structure. Virtual measurement data provided by the numerical magnetic field analysis are analysed using modern signal processing techniques to get a reliable indication of the fault. Support vector machine based classification is applied to fault diagnostics. The stator line current, circulating currents between parallel stator branches and force… Show more

“…[1] Major faults in SMs occur from inter-turn short circuit of stator or rotor windings, and eccentricity due to nonuniformity in the airgap, broken damper bar, stator-rotor rubbing etc. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Bearing faults though not quite common in large SMs are matter of importance [13] for high-speed machines.…”

“…Methods to detect a variety of electrical drive faults were discussed in [1]- [8]. These include open and shorted switches [1], open phase, shorting of adjacent commutator bars, and worn brushes [2], turn-turn shorts [3], [8], voltage unbalance between phases [4], [8], broken rotor bars and end rings [5], [6], [8], and increased stator temperature [7].…”
