Numerical simulation and experimental validation of multiphysics field coupling mechanisms for a high power ICP wind tunnel*

Abstract: We take the established inductively coupled plasma (ICP) wind tunnel as a research object to investigate the thermal protection system of re-entry vehicles. A 1.2-MW high power ICP wind tunnel is studied through numerical simulation and experimental validation. The distribution characteristics and interaction mechanism of the flow field and electromagnetic field of the ICP wind tunnel are investigated using the multi-field coupling method of flow, electromagnetic, chemical, and thermodynamic field. The accurac… Show more

“…It is worth noting that there was no particular reason to use specifically equations ( 8) and (10) for the calculation of λ. It is not unlikely that other simpler expressions which can be calculated faster, such as the formula suggested in [23], equation (12.119) there, will yield equally good results.…”

“…For MW discharges, 3D models have so far been reported only for Ar plasma [7,8]. 2D modelling studies of plasmas sustained by radio-frequency waves including chemical reactions have been done for N 2 [9,10]. Recently, a fully selfconsistent 2D modelling of the CO 2 plasma chemical conversion in MW reactors has been published [11], however, only for CO 2 diluted in Ar in the proportion 1:7.…”
