Numerical simulation of complex flow structures and pressure fluctuation at rotating stall conditions within a centrifugal pump

Abstract: Rotating stall contributes to global oscillation vibration problems, accompanied by noise and possible turbomachinery damage. This study with special emphasis on the vaned diffuser investigates the unsteady pressure interaction with the stall within the pump. A low specific speed centrifugal pump (n s = 69), fitted with a vaned diffuser is modeled and studied. The model pump performance curve shows the characteristic positive slope at 30% of the best efficiency point flow rate; 1.0 Φ Ν which is attributed to t… Show more

“…The negative side of centrifugal pumps is the disability of "self-priming" compared with screw, gear, and piston pumps. The selection of pump is decided in advance depending on the pollution scenario and technical requirements [29]. There are pumps with axial oil flow with a rotor in the form of a ship's propeller.…”

“…Rotary pumps use rotation of two gears to capture the oil, which is transferred between the outer housing and the space of the two gears [29,30]. The most common use of these pumps is for non-persistent oils such as diesel and gasoline.…”

“…Although massively numerical simulation methods are spearheading the process because they provide results that significantly represent actual conditions, Liu et al (2022) conducted a performance test on an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) using a numerical simulation method [9]. Alubokin et al (2021) studied the flow and pressure structures of centrifuges using numerical simulation methods [10]. Khalid and Rahmad (2022) used a numerical simulation method to study the symptoms of the cavitation phenomenon in centrifugal pumps [11].…”
