Numerical simulation of electromagnetic radiation using high-order discontinuous galerkin time domain method

Abstract: <span>In this paper, we propose the simulation of 2-dimensional electromagnetic wave radiation using high-order discontinuous Galerkin time domain method to solve Maxwell's equations. The domains are discretized into unstructured straight-sided triangle elements that allow enhanced flexibility when dealing with complex geometries. The electric and magnetic fields are expanded into a high-order polynomial spectral approximation over each triangle element. The field conservation between the elements is enf… Show more

“…As a result, the (3) to ( 8) can be transformed into 1D where, (∆x = ∆y = 0). The E x /H y mode is represented by (10) and (11), the E y /H x mode is also represented by the ( 9) and (12). Both modes propagate independently in the dielectric medium and have the same behaviour regarding the medium of propagation.…”

“…On the other hand, several researchers use the TLM method to describe and analyze the behavior of electromagnetic waves, in Lorentz medium [9] by adapting the auxiliary differential equation for TLM method, and the use of the Debye medium through the use of exponential time difference scheme [10]. A high-order discontinuous Galerkin time domain method is used in two dimensional problem to solve Maxwell's equations using a perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary conditions to absorb the wave in boundaries [11].…”

“…Due to the significant development of computer technology, many studies have been conducted about the numerical simulation of the electromagnetic and became more preferable as compared with the analytical and the experimental methods, since the cost and efforts were significantly reduced [1]. Because of the continuous increase in the level of the transmitted voltage in the past decades, which is a result of the increasing demand for the electrical energy, a need arises to increase the life span and optimum economic operation of the high voltage apparatus and became of a significant importance.…”
