Numerical Simulation of New Axial Flow Gas-Liquid Separator

Abstract: At present, most of the incoming liquids from the oilfield combined stations are not pre-separated for natural gas, which makes the subsequent process of oil-water separation less effective. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out gas-liquid separation. A new type of axial flow gas-liquid separator was proposed in this paper. The numerical simulation was carried out by CFD FLUENT software, and the changes of concentration field, velocity field and pressure field in the axial flow gas-liquid separator were anal… Show more

“…The purpose of the work is to analyze the possibility of using computational hydrodynamics to study the gas-liquid separator. oil and gas processing, chemical and petrochemical, construction and other industries [1,2,3,4,5]. The paper [6,7] analyzes the features of the separation process of the flow of a two-phase gas-liquid mixture, which is fed from the supply pipe to the separator.…”

“…These simplifications were considered because of the complexities related to the turbulent multiphase flow simulation. These include performing a 2-dimensional simulation (Yang et al, 2021) or using a steady-state solver (Kou and Li, 2022) for modeling downhole separators. With the aid of the self-made grid, a method for unsteady 3dimensional simulation of downhole gas-liquid separators in the real scale is presented considering the well casing annular section and a downhole plunger pump.…”

“…Previously studied geometries with vanes, spirals or helixes used a hybrid mesh for their computations (Mendez et al, 2018;Peng et al, 2018;Kou and Li, 2022;Tang et al, 2022). Using hybrid mesh rises the cells number significantly (for example, 4 million cells for 1226.5 𝑐𝑚 3 domain with a spiral section of 0.16 of the total pipe length (Rao et al, 2022)).…”
