Numerical Simulation on Carbonation Depth of Concrete Structures considering Time‐ and Temperature‐Dependent Carbonation Process

Abstract: In order to further understand the carbonation process of concrete structures, the time-and temperature-dependent diffusion process of CO 2 in concrete is simulated based on the law of the CO 2 mass conservation, and a two-dimensional mass transfer equation is established for the CO 2 diffusion in concrete. e concrete block is discretized into triangular elements, and the CO 2 concentrations at different positions are calculated based on finite element method. A computational algorithm is programed through the… Show more

“…The durability of concrete material is considered as one of the most important problems of concrete structures. Chloride corrosion is the main factor of concrete material performance degradation [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. The external load affects the transport of chloride ions in the concrete cover.…”

“…ere was a slight increase in the depth of carbonation with increase in w/c. e depth of CO 2 penetration increased in the order w/c 0.50 < w/c 0.60. is can be attributed to the fact that increased w/c results in increased permeability of the hydrated mortar matrix and, thus, higher penetration of CO 2 [11,41,[49][50][51].…”
