Numerical study of a high-extinction-ratio micro-polarizer array with a metal grid substrate

Abstract: In this paper, a complete investigation and simulation of the extinction ratio (ER) in a setup with a micro-polarizer array (MPA) is performed. A metal grid substrate structure, which can effectively reduce optical crosstalk and improve the ER, is proposed. The numerical calculation results show that the ER of our proposed structure is more than 10-fold higher than that of the traditional structure. Moreover, the effect of its structural parameters to the ER has been res… Show more

“…In 2022, Nie et al proposed a metal gate substrate structure applied to the micro-polarizer array, which can effectively reduce optical crosstalk and improve the extinction ratio of the micro-polarizer array. The calculation results show that the extinction ratio of the structure they proposed is more than 10 times higher than that of the traditional micro-polarizer structure [94]. They proposed a micropolarizer array with a metal mesh substrate, as shown in Figure 17a, showing the structure diagram of the micro-polarizer array.…”

“…For example, sand ants can reach several hundred meters away from their nests when foraging but can return to their nests in almost a straight line (thick line in the picture) [3], as shown in Figure 1. “…Distributed integration is to fabricate the required MPA on a certain substrate and then paste it on the detector [ 17 , 18 ]. Due to issues such as crosstalk caused by the thickness of the adhesive layer [ 19 ], alignment of detector pixels and MPA, and grating collapse caused by stress during the adhesive process, the polarization performance of the DoFP polarization detector has significantly declined. Therefore, it would be a better choice to directly fabricate MPA on the surface of the photosensitive surface of the detector, and some research groups have already tried this solution [ 20 ].…”
