Numerical Study of Gas Microflow within a Triangular Lid-driven Cavity

Abstract: A rarefied gas flow is modeled inside two cases of triangular lid-driven microcavity using single (SRT) and multi-relaxation time (MRT) lattice Boltzmann approaches. In the first one, the right angle is in the top-left corner and the upper wall moves with positive horizontal velocity. However, in the second case, the right angle is in the bottom-left corner and the bottom wall moves with negative horizontal velocity. Unlike the classical form of square cavities, widely treated in the literature, the triangular… Show more

“…This study aims to simulate natural convection of water flow confined within an enclosed right-angled triangular and isosceles cavity by the MRT-LBM. This method has confirmed its validity and stability compared to the SRT method [23,24]. This is the reason why we opened this window of its first use for such a flow in this type of triangular cavity.…”

“…In these models, thermal and hydrodynamic behaviors of flow are easily followed up separately using two distribution functions by mean of the D2Q9 (for density) and D2Q5 (for temperature). In the current study, the flow is modeled using the thermal MRT‐LBM to address the SRT inaccuracies 40,41 …”

“…In the current study, the flow is modeled using the thermal MRT-LBM to address the SRT inaccuracies. 40,41 The goal of this work is to investigate numerically natural convection in a triangular cavity filled with water. MRT-LBM tool is applied to solve the coupled equations of temperature and flow fields.…”

“…Therefore, the method ensures a link between the macro-and microscopic views of flow. Thus, LBM becomes a promising and powerful CFD tool as well as for microflow applications [13][14][15] usually reserved for pure kinetic approaches.…”
