Numerical study of heat transfer enhancement using perforated dual twisted tape inserts in converging‐diverging tubes

Abstract: In this article, a 3D numerical simulation for investigating friction factor and heat transfer enhancements in case of inserting normal or perforated dual twisted tapes (TTs) in converging‐diverging tubes (CDTs) is presented. The effects of Reynolds number changing from 10,000 to 20,000 and a various number of holes (N = 0, 1, 2, and 3) in TTs, under constant uniform heat flux on tube outer wall and using water as working fluid circumstances, were examined. It was found that generally using dual TTs in CDTs im… Show more

“…Heat exchangers are used in a wide range of applications, including power plants, industries, and air conditioning systems. Tubular heat exchangers, such as double pipe, shell-and-tube, plate heat exchangers, which include the serpentine tube, gasketed plateand-frame, and plate-fin heat exchangers are some of these heat exchangers [19,20].…”

“…Due to the complexity of active methods and their limitation for not being functional without an external energy source, passive methods are more common. Implementing fins, fluid additives, swirls flow devices, and porous mediums can be placed in this category. Kiwan and Al‐Nimr have numerically examined the thermal performance of a channel with the porous fins attached to a hot wall.…”
