Numerical Study of Modular 5.56 mm Standard Assault Rifle Referring to Dynamic Characteristics

Abstract: The paper describes investigations carried out to verify a loading mechanism of a newly designed modular assault rifle MSBS-5.56. A complex character of interaction between its elements during a reloading process encouraged the authors implement a numerical approach based on the multibody system to specify the essential dynamic characteristics. The achieved results were compared to the data recorded during the experimental tests on the shooting range. Owing to the proposed modelling methodology, a good agreeme… Show more

“…It was used to form ballistic panels in spaceships. Recognition of the stress values will allow for improving the numerical design in the phenomena of ballistic resistance [ 43 ]. In addition, the explosive joining process increased the tensile strength by approximately 8% compared with the strength that resulted from the law of mixtures.…”

“…Earlier works were related to some exact applications or case studies analysis [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ], however, for the most part, it has a form of preliminary analysis with that highlights the fundamental problems that arise during application of parts obtained using AM. Additionally, a lot of applied research is focused on some functional prototypes [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ], in which the final parts are obtained using conventional manufacturing methods. Nowadays, trends in professional AM system development are mostly focused on the manufacturing of final products [ 10 ].…”

“…Clearly, then, earlier works were connected with some exact application or case studies analysis [2][3][4][5] but mostly those kinds of works had a form of preliminary analysis with highlighting of fundamental problems during application of parts obtained using additive manufacturing. Additionally, a lot of research works connected with the application were focused on functional prototypes [6][7][8][9] where final parts were obtained using conventional manufacturing methods. Present trends in professional AM systems development are mostly focused on the usage of that kind of technology in final products [10].…”
