Numerical Study of the Effects of Injection Conditions on Rotating Detonation Engine Propulsive Performance

Lisong Shi,
E Fan,
Hua Shen
et al.

Abstract: A three-dimensional upwind conservation element and solution element method (CESE) in cylindrical coordinates is first developed to effectively solve the unsteady reactive Euler equations governing a hydrogen–air rotating detonation engine (RDE) with coaxial structures. The effects of the annular width on the structure of the detonation front and the relationship between the thrust and mass flow rate are then investigated. Additionally, RDEs with various injection conditions are systematically analyzed regardi… Show more

“…There have been many studies on the mechanism of single ablation of C/SiC composites, but many high-temperature environments are not continuous. For example, the high-temperature environment of RDE is periodic [27][28][29]. Therefore, studying cyclic ablation can better reveal the ablation performance of materials under this working condition.…”

“…[28] and Liu [29] experimentally studied the effect of reactant injection and mixing on detonation wave propagation in an optically accessible linear detonation combustor. Shi et al [30] computationally studied the effect of injection pattern in terms of location and width of injection slots on the wave structure and performance of the RDE. Wang et al [31] studied computationally the effect of ozone addition to a hydrogen-air mixture on the multiwave operation process of the RDE.…”
