Nup88 Expression is Associated With Myometrial Invasion in Endometrial Carcinoma

Abstract: From these results, it is concluded that Nup88 expression seems indeed to be associated with a distinct feature of tumor aggressiveness (myometrial invasion) in endometrial carcinoma and that larger studies are therefore probably worthwhile.

“…Overall, the inconsistencies observed with MI may be due to differences in stage or grade amongst selected patients and the various definitions of MI; depths of >1/3 (26), >50% (22) and ≥66% (18) are all regarded as cut-off values for deep MI in various studies, indicating that in endometrial cancer, the depth of MI has various roles according to the severity of the disease. In previous studies MI has been associated with certain biochemical indicators, including levels of free insulin-like growth factor-1 plasma (27), nucleoporin (88kDa)-mRNA expression (28) and endoplasmic reticulum-β (29). An association was also demonstrated between tumor-associated macrophages and depth of MI (30).…”

“…Along with the tumor penetrated to the fat layer, the Nup88 was remarkably increased. It has been reported that in endometrial carcinoma, growing levels of Nup88 mRNA expression was correlated with the depth of myometrial invasion [4]. In our study, the levels of Nup88 in the pre-operative serum of CRC patients with advanced stage (Ⅲ±Ⅳ) were much higher than the earlier stage (Ⅰ±Ⅱ).…”

“…Nup88 has been shown in previous studies to be overexpressed in a wide variety of malignancies including gastroenteric carcinomas [3][4][5]. In our previous studies on tissues from CRC patients, Nup88 protein determined by immunohistochemistry was overexpressed in the primary tumor and lymph node metastasis of CRC compared to the normal colorectal mucosa, and the strong expression of Nup88 predicted a worse outcome in the patients [6][7].…”

“…Several components of the nuclear periphery — lamins, LAP2 and emerin — have already been assessed as bio-markers in a wide range of cancer types (for example, see REFS 13,122–125) (TABLE 1). NUP88 was serendipi tously discovered as a cancer biomarker 126,127 , and has since been found in many studies to be overexpressed in malignant tissues 127–133 . More generally, lamins, certain nucleoporins and SENP1 have emerged in unbiased screens as biomarkers of interest for their change in levels found in cancer (for example, see REFS 45,134136).…”
