Objective: to verify the difference of mean or median in the scores of family functionality and burden of family caregivers of people with mental disorders. Methods: cross-sectional study carried out in a Psychosocial Care Center with 61 family caregivers. Instruments were used for sociodemographic characterization, care process, Family Apgar Index and Family Burden Interview Schedule. Mean/median difference tests were adopted. Results: women with mental disorders and the presence of children in the home decreased the median of the family Apgar score. Difficulty in the relationship between caregiver/user, nervousness/tension, physical aggression and agitation of patients increased the global average of subjective burden. Conclusions: nursing interventions to reduce burden and promote family functionality should prioritize caregivers of women with mental disorders, assist them in managing troublesome behaviors and raising awareness of family nucleus to co-responsibility for caring for sick people, especially in families with children who demand daily care.

Objetivo: analisar as concepções do processo saúde-doença mental mediante narrativas dos discentes dos cursos de graduação em Enfermagem de uma universidade federal baiana. Método: pesquisa narrativa, de abordagem qualitativa, que analisou narrativas de acadêmicos do curso de Enfermagem de uma universidade pública baiana, de abril a julho de 2021. Os dados foram analisados por meio da técnica narrativa de Cardano. Resultados: participaram 40 acadêmicos com idade entre 19 e 50 anos. Os resultados foram agrupados em categorias empíricas: concepções do processo saúde-doença mental e qualidade de vida; intervenções psicossociais para o enfrentamento do sofrimento psíquico; reflexo da pandemia de Covid-19 no sofrimento psíquico dos universitários; e infraestrutura/funcionamento da universidade repercutindo na saúde mental do universitário. Considerações finais: as narrativas dos estudantes sugerem possíveis intervenções pedagógicas e clínicas das Universidades aos estudantes futuros enfermeiros. Os estudantes compreendem a necessidade de sua prática ser balizada pelos princípios do SUS e ancorada no cuidado de enfermagem.

Measures taken to reduce the rate of contagion during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain led to the interruption of nursing interventions for many patients with serious mental illness (SMI), while others stayed in touch with their nurses telematically. However, published research into the impact of mental telehealth and the outcome of the changes that took place in the pandemic is very limited. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the changes in nursing interventions received by severe mental illness (SMI) patients and to test whether telemental health (TH) has been effective in reducing relapses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods: Information was gathered retrospectively from about 270 patients under treatment at 15 mental health day hospitals (MHDHs) in Spain during the year 2020. Results: Face-to-face nursing interventions were found to have decreased and TH interventions were found to have increased in the first few months of the pandemic. In the following months, TH interventions—especially those conducted by video call—helped reduce the number of relapses. Conclusions: TH helps provide news forms of effective telematic nursing interventions that reduce the number of relapses and admissions in patients with serious mental health disorders.
