Objectives: to validate the nursing diagnosis “Terminality Syndrome” with experts. Methods: a quantitative research of content validation type based on collective wisdom approach. An online semi-structured questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection, and Content Validity Index and Wilcoxon test were used for comparing possible differences. Results: the questionnaire was answered by 89 professionals after judges’ assessment in relation to the structural components of the diagnosis proposed. The mean Content Validity Index of items was above that recommended, except for title, which was ≥ 0.8. The suggestions were reviewed and accepted, being forwarded for a new analysis, reaching 83.7% of agreement among participants. Conclusions: the diagnosis’ content proved to be valid by judges. With that, it is expected to contribute with a useful nursing diagnosis for nursing practice documentation in palliative care.

PurposeTo identify the prevalence of the nursing diagnosis of compromised end‐of‐life syndrome in patients in end‐of‐life care.MethodsThis is a clinical validation based on a cross‐sectional epidemiological clinical study conducted at the National Cancer Institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The defining characteristics of a syndrome diagnosis were identified, defined as a “subset of nursing diagnoses,” using sensitivity and specificity measures through the application of latent class statistical methods.FindingsThe statistical results revealed seven nursing diagnoses characterizing the syndrome: imbalanced nutrition: less than body requirements, nausea, anxiety, ineffective breathing pattern, disturbed sleep pattern, ineffective thermoregulation, and fatigue. Compromised end‐of‐life syndrome was present in 76% of the sample.ConclusionThe study demonstrated the presence of compromised end‐of‐life syndrome in most end‐of‐life patients from the sample.Implications for nursing practiceRecognizing the presence of the syndrome diagnosis enables nurses to have efficient and effective clinical reasoning for implementing the nursing process in palliative care. Objective: To evaluate the clinical applicability of the terminological subset of the international classification for the nursing practice of palliative care for a dignified dying, in oncology. Method: Prospective study evaluating the clinical applicability of 33 nursing diagnoses/outcomes and 220 nursing interventions. It used case studies of 20 cancer patients undergoing palliation. The nursing process steps were operated by two nurses. Descriptive statistics was used to present, according to the theoretical model, the nursing diagnoses/outcomes and interventions identified in the patients. All statements identified in patients at some point during care were considered applicable in clinical practice. Results: Twenty-nine nursing diagnoses/outcomes and 197 nursing interventions from the subset were identified. Conclusion: In the context of palliative care in patients with cancer, the clinical applicability of 87.8% of the diagnoses/outcomes and 89.5% of the interventions that make up the palliative care terminological subset for dignified dying is affirmed.
