Nutrient composition and ameliorative effects of Cocos nucifera products on Alloxan-induced diabetic wistar rats

Abstract: Using standard methods, this study investigated the ameliorative effects of coconut products during alloxan-induced diabetic conditions. Experimental animals were divided into five groups, group 1 served as normal control rats fed only rat chow and saline, group 2 were diabetic control rats intraperitoneally treated with 150mg/kg body weight alloxan monohydrate, group 3 were diabetic rats orally treated with 4ml/day of coconut milk, group 4 were diabetic rats orally treated with 4ml/day of coconut water, and g… Show more

“…ABTS radical scavenging potentials of garden egg stalk. While the Fe 3+ , superoxide, and lipid peroxide scavenging potentials of the eggplant stalk as shown in Figures 5, 6, and 7, respectively, were equivalent to the standards used. The significant DPPH and ABTS scavenging potentials of eggplant stalk shown in this study, testifies to the potent hydrogen donating capacities of their phytoconstituents, and in addition, their nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide scavenging potentials directly implicate rich supplies of phenolic acids in the eggplant stalk(Aluko et al, 2013).…”

“…A hundred grams (100g) of the sliced coconut meat was blended in 200ml of distilled water using an electric blender. Thereafter, the ground mixture was sieved with cotton sieve, and the filtrate (CM) was used in the experiment (Benjamin et al, 2017;Dosumu et al, 2021). The extract was freshly prepared for every day of diet preparation throughout the experiment.…”
