Nutrient use effeciency, yield attributes and comparative economics of potato crop (Solanum tuberosum L.) in response to zinc and boron nutrition in entisols of India

Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during the winter (rabi) seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17 at C-unit research farm of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal, India to determine the effect of boron and zinc on growth and yield of potato under lower Gangetic plains of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with four replications having seven treatments viz. T1 (RDF of NPK 200:150:150 kg N: P2O5:K2O/ha), T2 (T1+2.0 kg B/ha as soil application), T3 (T1+ 4.5 k… Show more

“…The lowest number of large sized tubers were observed in 0.1% Zinc spray. Lenka & Das (2019) observed that soil application of only boron, only zinc and boron + zinc increased the total number of tubers by 3.9, 3.5 and 12.0%, respectively over the control.…”

“…Foliar spray ZnO-NPs at 80 mgL-1 per plant increased the weight of tubers per plant by (69.89 and 41.72%) and tubers weight per ha by (73.65 and 41.69%) during two seasons respectively. Several studies have reported that the application of ZnO-NPs had a positive effect on the yields of plants as Lenka and Das (2019) and Neogi and Das (2022) on potato and Adil et al (2022) on wheat. For several metabolic processes, Zn serves as an important element that activates enzymes.…”

“…In addition to being necessary for the production of auxins and chlorophyll cytochrome pigment, it also plays a significant part in the control of enzymes and carbohydrates, as well as in the growth of roots that are suitable for the circumstances. Through the processes of light-harvesting (photosynthesis) and nitrogen, synthesis, it (iron) serves as a cofactor [6,7].As a result of its high solubility, zinc sulphate is the kind of zinc IOP Publishing doi:10.1088/1755-1315/1371/4/042035 2 fertiliser that is used more often than any other type [8]. Boron is a microelement that is involved in the pathway of structural proteins important for many growth processes [9].Root and shoot growth, as well as plant development, are all influenced by it.…”
