“…Thus our interpretation is that the woman's own nutrition does not influence the duration of amenorrhoea to any great extent, at least within the range of nutrition found in these Norwegian cities. However, extreme malnutrition is held to prolong post-partum amenorrhoea, as found in Bangladesh (Huffman et al, 1978(Huffman et al, , 1987 and Ethiopia (Wenlock & Wenlock, 1981) in the mid-1970s. In the second Bangladesh study the mother's nutritional status, defined by weight at pregnancy termination, was negatively associated with post-partum amenorrhoea, the weight groups compared being less than 38 kg and over 44 kg respectively (Huffman et al, 1987).…”
