Nutritional properties of Macedonian landraces of small grain cereals as a source of new genetic variability

Abstract: Taking into account the better agro-ecological adaptations developed over time to climate changed conditions, cereal local populations (landraces) represent a valuable plant genetic resources with their perspective reflected in the creation of better quality commercial cereal genotypes. The objectives of this research were to explore: i) the genetic variability of nutritional properties of Macedonian landraces of small grain cereals-wheat, barley, oat, and rye; ii) associations among nutritional properties; ii… Show more

“…Examining the effect of calcification and humification on PC of oat grains Jelic et al (2013) state that it ranged from 10.17% to 12.04%. Jordanovska et al (2018), point out that the PC of different oat varieties ranged from 11.99% to 14.62%, which is significantly higher than our results. Jelic et al (2013), by regular use of NPK fertilizers with an increased content of phosphorous nutrient and combined application of NPK, lime and manure, have established the wheat grain higher in PC than control.…”

“…Protein content of oats is very important, since proteins have great nutritional and biological value (Ahmad et al, 2011;Devi et al, 2019). One of the goals of oat breeding is the selection of genotypes with an increased share of essential amino acids, which play a significant role in human and animal nutrition (Jordanovska et al, 2018).…”

“…The yield per unit area is the result of the action of factors of variety in interaction with environmental factors. The yield is largely dependent on the genetic potential and considerably vary primarily as a result of agroecological conditions during the growing season (Dodig et al, 2008;Hristov et al, 2011;Đekić et al, 2017b;Jelić et al, 2014;Djuric et al, 2018;Jordanovska et al, 2018;Popović et al, 2016Popović et al, , 2018Terzić et al, 2018b).…”

“…However, taking into account the dominant influence of the mineral nutrition in the synthesis of primary production of the organic matter and yield forming, this problem, intensively researched until now, will stay in the focal point of researchers and practitioners as long as plants cultivated (Kneţević et al, 2015). A constant advance in the selection and creation of new varieties represents the strong impetus to research of different problems of the mineral nutrition of wheat (Perišić et al, 2016;Khan et al, 2017;Djuric et al, 2018;Jordanovska et al, 2018;Terzić et al, 2018a;Rajičić et al, 2019). With the appearance of the new wheat variety (essentially distinguished in a number of useful traits, a higher yield potential on the first place), it turned out their demands are more pronounced according to mineral nutrition (Kneţević et al, 2007;Jelić et al, 2016;Khan and Mohammad, 2016;Đekić et al, 2017a;Tmušić et al, 2018).…”
