Nutritional value of distillers dried grains with solubles from corn and sorghum and xylanase in diets for pigs

Abstract: Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the digestibility and energy of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) from corn and sorghum with or without xylanase enzyme in diets for pigs. The values of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), mineral matter (MM), ether extract (EE), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), gross (GE), digestible (DE), metabolizable energy (ME), and digestibility coefficients (DC) were determined. In the experiment 1, we used eight barrows of 26.15±3.45 kg with repe… Show more

“…The inclusion of 300 g kg −1 DDGS in the diet of gestating sows tends to elicit an early display of lying or inactivity behavior. Therefore, the fiber provided through DDGS favors welfare to gestating sows, despite the worsening in the digestibility coefficient of the diet compared with corn-soybean meal diets (Corassa et al, 2019). Furthermore, according to De Leeuw et al (2005), sows fed highfiber diets, exhibit less frequent posture changes during gestation, which reduces aggressiveness Dried distillers grains with solubles in diets during late gestation affects behavior and maintains the... Corassa et al and occurrence of other stressing factors during this period, which is especially important for housed group like in this study.…”

“…Ethanol production from corn generates co-products such as dried distillers grains (DDG), DDG with solubles (DDGS), and high protein DDG (HPDDG), which contain great content of lipids, crude protein, and energy, being widely used in non-ruminant feeding in North America (Stein and Shurson, 2009;Chatzifragkou and Charalampopoulos, 2018). Few studies about these corn co-products produced in Brazil over their nutritional value and the effects on pigs and poultry growth performance and carcass traits have been performed in the last few years (Corassa et al, 2017;Schone et al, 2017;Bittencourt et al, 2019;Corassa et al, 2019;Paula et al, 2021).…”
