Nutritive value of daily food rations of patients with psoriasis vulgaris: a preliminary report

Abstract: A b s t r a c t I In nt tr ro od du uc ct ti io on n: : Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory systemic disorder. It has been suggested that dietary factors may influence the course and severity of the disease. A Ai im m: : To assess nutritive values of daily food rations (DFRs) of patients with psoriasis vulgaris and to correlate them with the severity of the disease, as well as to compare them with DFRs of patients with other chronic inflammatory skin disorders. “…It was revealed that vitamin D mediated, not only adipokines release, but also energetic homeostasis via the regulation of leptin formation. Another study showed that vitamin D suppressed the secretion of leptin by adipose tissue [ 257 ]. Additionally, CYP27B1 knockout mice were hypoleptinemic and consumed more food as compared to their wild type counterparts.…”

“…Many studies describe the link between vitamin D deficiencies and cardiovascular risk, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia [ 4 , 5 , 7 , 8 , 15 , 16 ]. Lower concentrations of circulating vitamin D were associated with a higher fasting glucose level, reduced insulin sensitivity, and increased risk of type II diabetes mellitus [ 8 , 11 , 13 , 17 ]. Moreover, low concentrations of vitamin D were observed in neoplasms, e.g.…”

“…Several studies prove the relationship between vitamin D concentrations and leptin. Vitamin D powerfully inhibits in vitro leptin secretion by human adipose tissue [ 17 ]. The clinical significance of the connections between leptin and vitamin D remains to be ascertained.…”
