“…We used 13 new survey sites installed on two profiles in the region with an average spacing on the order of 10 km. Since our sites are only survey sites, we use the values determined (Djamour et al 2011) for the continuous GPS in NW of Iran. Finally, velocities and their 1s confidence uncertainties were estimated in ITRF2008 and then the Eurasian reference frame was defined by minimizing the horizontal velocities of IGS stations located in Europe and central Asia (Djamour et al 2011).…”

“…GPS vectors at the NTF indicates a mainly north-northeast tectonic movement. Close to Ahar, the average slip (between 1999 and 2009) along the segment is of about 11 mm/year (Djamour et al 2011). Right after the doublet a surface rupture was occurred in the area (Fig.…”

“…Tectonically, NW Iran is an intracontinental collision zone, and one of the main features in this region is the North Tabriz Fault accommodating several millimeters per year of right lateral strike slip motion, on the basis of GPS studies (e.g., Vernant et al, 2004;Djamour et al, 2011). NW Iran has been affected by seismic activity during historical and instrumental time periods.…”
